The Seiko Grand Quartz represents one of the finest achievements of Japan's golden era of watchmaking. Produced during a period of intense competition to create the world's most accurate quartz timepieces, the Grand Quartz line was positioned just below Grand Seiko and combined exceptional precision with the outstanding build quality for which Seiko became renowned. This particular example, reference 4843-8040, dates to circa 1975 and is a superb example of the understated elegance that has made these vintage high-accuracy quartz models increasingly sought after by collectors.
Its beautifully finished silver sunburst dial displays a subtle depth that changes with the light, complemented by polished applied baton hour markers and faceted hands that provide excellent legibility. The framed day and date display at three o'clock completes the balanced design, while the sharp stainless steel case retains the clean angular lines that are characteristic of Seiko's mid-1970s styling. The watch is fitted to its original Seiko Grand Quartz stainless steel bracelet, an increasingly desirable feature that adds both authenticity and collectability.
Powering the watch is the highly respected Seiko Calibre 4843, a High Accuracy Quartz movement developed during Seiko's pursuit of absolute precision.
