STONEBRIDGE WATCHES SAYS...
The Seiko Tank is one of those rare watches that manages to capture the elegance of a classic dress watch while remaining unmistakably Seiko. Produced during the late 1970s and early 1980s, the reference 2220-3031 is highly regarded among collectors for its clean rectangular case, minimalist styling and timeless Roman numeral dial. Inspired by the refined proportions of the great Art Deco dress watches, this model offers a sophisticated vintage aesthetic that feels just as relevant today as it did when it first left the factory.
This example dates to September 1976 and presents beautifully, featuring its original silver sunburst dial with striking black Roman numerals and elegant black hands. The stainless steel case remains in excellent condition with crisp lines and strong facets, showcasing the quality of Seiko's design and finishing during this era. Powering the watch is Seiko's reliable 2220 quartz movement, delivering the accuracy and convenience that helped establish Seiko as a leader in quartz watchmaking.
To complement the watch's vintage character, it has been fitted with a new soft and supple vintage-style leather strap. The rich brown leather pairs perfectly with the silver dial and rectangular case, while the original Seiko-signed buckle has been retained, providing an attractive finishing touch and preserving an authentic Seiko detail. The result is a watch that wears comfortably from the moment it is fastened and looks equally at home with tailoring or more casual attire.
Elegant, understated and increasingly sought after, the Seiko 2220-3031 offers an affordable route into vintage Japanese watch collecting while delivering a design that rivals many far more expensive dress watches. Its slim profile and classic proportions make it an ideal choice for collectors, enthusiasts and anyone seeking a distinctive vintage timepiece with genuine character.
At Stonebridge Watches, we have long admired the Seiko Tank series for its timeless styling, exceptional value and enduring wearability. The 2220-3031 remains one of our favourite vintage Seiko dress watches, and we are pleased to offer this excellent example. We currently have two further Seiko Tank models and variations available, which can be viewed via the Seiko collection link below. Whether you are purchasing your first vintage Seiko or adding another example to an established collection, these charming rectangular watches continue to represent some of the finest value in vintage watchmaking..
