STONEBRIDGE WATCHES SAYS...
The Seiko Lord Matic remains one of the finest examples of Japanese watchmaking from the early 1970s, combining elegant styling with robust engineering and exceptional value. Introduced during a period when Seiko was competing directly with the very best Swiss manufacturers, the Lord Matic range quickly earned a reputation for its high-quality automatic movements, refined case designs and superb attention to detail. This particular 5606-7010, dating from 1973, perfectly captures that era with its beautifully balanced proportions, sharp angular stainless steel case and wonderfully understated silver linen dial.
The textured linen-effect dial is undoubtedly the highlight of this watch, catching the light beautifully and giving the appearance of woven fabric beneath the applied baton hour markers. Finished with polished hands, a framed bilingual day and date display and the distinctive Lord Matic emblem above six o'clock, it is a design that remains as sophisticated today as it was over fifty years ago. Measuring 36mm excluding the crown, it offers comfortable vintage proportions that wear equally well for both everyday use and more formal occasions.
Powering the watch is Seiko's respected Calibre 5606 automatic movement featuring 25 jewels, renowned amongst collectors for its smooth operation and dependable performance. The watch has been paired with a new black leather strap and is fitted with a signed Seiko stainless steel buckle, providing a smart presentation while remaining faithful to the character of the original design. Presented in excellent vintage condition, this is a fine example of one of Seiko's most desirable dress watches from the period.
At Stonebridge Watches, we have long admired the quality and craftsmanship of vintage Seiko timepieces, particularly those produced during the company's golden era of the late 1960s and early 1970s. Models such as the Lord Matic demonstrate just how far ahead Seiko was in both design and engineering, and we have a particular appreciation for these beautifully textured linen-style dials. They possess a depth and elegance that is difficult to capture in photographs, making them some of our favourite vintage Seiko watches to source and offer for sale.
