STONEBRIDGE WATCHES SAYS...
This beautiful vintage Seiko Art Deco Tank, reference 2628-5110, dates to November 1982 and is a particularly elegant example of Seiko's distinctive rectangular dress watches from the early 1980s. With its beautifully proportioned gold-tone case, striking two-tone dial and traditional Roman numeral hour markers, this is a watch that captures the timeless sophistication of Art Deco design.
The dial is undoubtedly one of the most appealing features of this particular model. A warm champagne-gold chapter ring surrounds a contrasting white centre, creating a wonderfully balanced and attractive appearance. Bold black Roman numerals provide an elegant vintage character, complemented by slender black hands and a charming rectangular subsidiary seconds display positioned at six o'clock. This unusual small-seconds arrangement adds considerable visual interest and sets the watch apart from more conventional rectangular quartz designs.
The beautifully shaped gold-plated case features a polished finish and subtle stepped detailing, giving the watch an understated sense of luxury. Measuring 40mm in height and just 20.5mm in width, excluding the crown, its long, slender proportions are particularly elegant on the wrist. These dimensions are entirely in keeping with traditional rectangular dress watches, allowing the watch to sit discreetly beneath a shirt cuff while retaining a distinctive presence.
At its heart is Seiko's reliable Japanese Calibre 2628 quartz movement, offering the convenience and accuracy of quartz timekeeping while retaining the charm and character of a vintage timepiece. The watch dates to November 1982, as indicated by its serial number, making it an especially appealing choice for anyone seeking a meaningful birth-year watch or a distinctive addition to a vintage collection.
This example is presented in excellent vintage condition, with a particularly clean and attractive dial, well-preserved case detailing and only light signs of age consistent with its history. The overall appearance is exceptionally pleasing, particularly when considering that this watch is now more than 40 years old.
To complement its vintage character, we have fitted a brand-new, beautifully soft and supple brown leather strap in a traditional vintage style. The warm leather tones work particularly well with the champagne dial and gold-tone case, while a matching gold Seiko-signed buckle provides a lovely finishing touch. The result is a wonderfully cohesive and elegant presentation.
The watch will also be supplied in our special Stonebridge Watches presentation box, as illustrated in the accompanying photographs. Together with our six-month warranty, this makes it an attractive choice for a special occasion, anniversary or memorable gift.
Why We Chose This Watch
At Stonebridge Watches, we have a particular affection for beautifully proportioned vintage dress watches, and this Seiko immediately caught our attention. The combination of its elongated rectangular case, contrasting champagne and white dial, elegant Roman numerals and unusual small-seconds display gives it a distinctive character that we find enormously appealing.
There is something wonderfully understated about watches of this period. They were designed to be elegant rather than oversized, with careful attention paid to proportion and detail. This particular Seiko captures those qualities exceptionally well, and we believe it offers a great deal of vintage charm and individuality.
For anyone who appreciates the sophistication of a classic rectangular dress watch, this is a particularly attractive example and one we are delighted to offer through Stonebridge Watches.
