STONEBRIDGE WATCHES SAYS...
Omega Seamaster Automatic 166.009 Full Set, One Owner from New (1965)
There are vintage watches, and then there are pieces that carry a genuine story. This 1965 Omega Seamaster Ref. 166.009 firmly belongs in the latter category. Preserved by a single owner from new and accompanied by its original box, outer case, and international guarantee, it represents a level of completeness and provenance that is increasingly difficult to source in todays market.
Housed in a beautifully proportioned 35mm pressure-bonded 18k gold plated case, this Seamaster captures the understated elegance that defined Omegas mid-century design language. The warm gold tone is paired with a clean, silvered dial featuring applied bar indices and the distinctive sword-tip dolphin hands, all of which remain original to the watch. A neatly framed date aperture at 3 oclock adds both symmetry and practicality, operated via the period-correct quick-set function. The dial itself is particularly pleasing, retaining a soft, even tone that complements the case superbly.
Powering the watch is Omegas highly regarded Calibre 562 automatic movement, a 24-jewel workhorse known for its reliability and smooth operation. This example has been serviced by a professional watchmaker and is currently performing exceptionally, running at better than +5 seconds per day with strong, consistent winding actionan impressive result for a piece of this age.
What truly elevates this watch beyond the ordinary is its provenance. Included is the original Omega inner box, the outer boxhonestly worn and sympathetically held together with period tapeand, most importantly, the original international guarantee booklet. The documentation confirms its history, with handwritten details and sale date, offering a tangible connection back to its original purchase in 1965. It is rare enough to find a watch of this era in such well-preserved condition; rarer still to find one that has remained with a single owner and retains its accompanying accessories.
Fitted with a high-quality Omega-branded strap and matching gold Omega buckle, alongside its original signed crown and crystal, this is a remarkably honest example that has clearly been cherished rather than worn heavily. The overall condition reflects careful ownership, with the watch presenting beautifully both on the wrist and in hand.
At Stonebridge Watches, we have a deep appreciation for pieces that go beyond aestheticswatches that tell a story and offer true collectability. This Seamaster is one such example. To find another complete with its original box, guarantee, single-owner provenance, and this level of mechanical performance is exceptionally unlikely. Opportunities to acquire a watch of this calibre, with such history intact, are few and far betweenand this may well be the only chance to secure one in this form.
