STONEBRIDGE WATCHES SAYS...1971 Longines Admiral 5-Star Automatic Ref. 8335 Calibre 508 High-Beat
A superb example of the classic Longines Admiral 5-Star Automatic, from 1971. This elegant vintage timepiece represents a particularly desirable period for Longines when the brand introduced its higher-frequency automatic movements, offering improved accuracy and a smoother seconds sweep.
Powered by the impressive Longines Calibre 508, the watch runs at a high-beat 28,800 vibrations per hour, a specification considered advanced for the time and one that marked a significant technical step forward for the Admiral line.
The watch features a beautifully preserved silver sunburst dial with a striking interplay of light. The dial is enhanced by fully applied metal details, including the raised Longines winged hourglass logo, applied LONGINES lettering, and the distinctive five applied stars above the Admiral signature hallmarks of the higher-grade Admiral models from this era. Slim applied baton indices and a practical date display at 3 oclock complete the refined dial layout.
The stainless steel case is the classic 1970s C-case design, measuring approximately 3536 mm, and features a monobloc front-loading construction a design intended to improve water resistance and structural integrity. The watch presents beautifully on the wrist with elegant proportions that remain highly wearable today.
This example is presented on a brand new high-quality leather strap and is fitted with a Longines-signed buckle, completing the authentic vintage presentation.
For added presentation and protection, the watch will also be supplied with a Longines branded travel case, making it an excellent option for both collectors and those seeking a refined everyday vintage timepiece.
Elegant, historically interesting and powered by a high-beat in-house Longines movement, the Admiral remains one of the most wearable and collectible vintage Longines models from the early 1970s.
Here at Stonebridge Watches we still feel Longines despite their long and distinguished history of watchmaking are still slightly undervalued. Especially when compared to for example Omega. This watch is no exception with it's stunning ageless sunburst dial and polished case. Running with excellent daily accuracy of under 20 seconds a day.
It's hard to believe this watch is 55 years old. 1971 is also my birth year and it is fair to say this watch is in far better shape than myself ! Priced very affordably we believe this timepiece would make an excellent first time buy or even for a seasoned watch collector.
