STONEBRIDGE WATCHES SAYS...

The Omega Seamaster Ref. 2577 is one of the most iconic and enduring designs to emerge from Omega's early post-war period. Produced during the 1950s and powered by the celebrated Calibre 354 automatic movement, it represents a fascinating chapter in horological history when automatic wristwatches were still in their infancy.
This particular example is especially attractive, featuring a beautifully preserved silver stepped dial with applied gold hour markers and elegant dolphin hands. The stepped dial construction creates subtle changes in light and texture depending on the viewing angle, giving the watch a depth and character often absent from modern designs. Combined with the warm tones of the gilt furniture and the clean stainless steel case, the result is an exceptionally balanced and sophisticated vintage Seamaster.
At the heart of the watch is Omega's renowned Calibre 354 automatic movement, commonly referred to by collectors as a "bumper" automatic. Unlike modern rotor systems that rotate continuously through 360 degrees, the bumper mechanism winds the watch through a spring-loaded oscillating weight that gently rebounds between two stops. The design offers a distinctive character and remains one of the most charming automatic movements ever produced by Omega.
Importantly, this watch has recently undergone a comprehensive overhaul. The movement has been fully dismantled, cleaned, lubricated and reassembled, and is currently performing at approximately +8 seconds per day when measured flat. Such performance is highly impressive for a watch of this age and provides reassurance that it is ready to be enjoyed for years to come.
Measuring approximately 36.5mm excluding the crown, the Ref. 2577 offers excellent wrist presence while retaining the elegant proportions for which vintage Omega watches are so highly regarded. The watch is presented on a new leather strap fitted with an Omega signed buckle and is accompanied by an Omega travel case.
At Stonebridge Watches we have always had a particular appreciation for Omega's early Seamaster models, and examples such as this demonstrate exactly why. The combination of a beautifully preserved stepped dial, strong case condition, documented overhaul and exceptional daily accuracy is becoming increasingly difficult to find. While vintage Seamaster watches remain widely admired, locating one that retains this level of originality, presentation and mechanical performance is considerably rarer.
For collectors seeking an authentic 1950s Omega with genuine character, historical significance and everyday usability, this Ref. 2577 represents a particularly compelling opportunity and is among the finest examples we have had the pleasure of offering..
